Church Ministries

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

DISCOVER AND USE YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFT!: If you are like many believers, you either don’t know or have a hazy idea of what God’s special spiritual gift to you is.  And in spirit of what you may have thought, you only have one spiritual gift.   If you don’t know what your spiritual gift is, how can you effectively use it in serving the Lord? Unfortunately, there is a lot of ignorance and error surrounding the subject of spiritual gifts. In this 13-lesson class taught by Dr. Neil Bauman, you will discover what the Bible teaches about  spiritual gifts, what your spiritual gift is and suitable ministries in which you can use your spiritual gift.  Jesus said, “I chose you to bear fruit” (John 15:16). Join us starting Sunday, September 10 in the church office from 9:15-10:10 am, as together we discover the joy of being transformed from  “pew potatoes” to  fruit producers. Each participant  will receive a copy of Neil’s book on spiritual gifts.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS THAT DESERVE ANSWERS: How do we know the Bible is really the Word of God? Won’t devout people from all faiths go to heaven?  If the word “Trinity” isn’t in the Bible, why is this doctrine essential to salvation?  Do I really need to go to church to be saved? Does livestreaming church count?  Has God already determined who’s going to heaven and to hell? Join Pastor Ben and Matt Hogan starting Sunday, September 10 in the Church Basement from 9:15-10:10 am, as we open God’s Word together to respond to these and many more tough questions that demand answers. The Belgic Confession will guide our study of the Bible in this discussion-oriented class. Weekly study guides will be provided to equip and encourage your discussion and reflection on His Word at home during the week.

CHILDREN SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Bible is all about the gospel. The gospel is  all about Jesus. Our background-checked Sunday School teachers are excited to love and be part of your kids’ growth in Jesus as they prepare weekly, age-appropriate, interactive lessons to equip our kids to see Jesus in all of scripture. We will be starting on September 10 from 9:15-10:10 am in the Education Building. We begin with a time of prayer and worship in the main area before moving to classrooms for the lesson using the Gospel Project curriculum. For more information, contact Sunday School Superintendent Nicole Roetcisoender at 360-739-1648.

YOUTH MINISTRIES

GEMS: We are so excited to be starting Gems back up this year for 2nd-8th graders. Our kick-off night is scheduled for Monday, September 11 at the city park at 6:30 pm. We will be combining with the Cadets group for a fun night of pizza, games and getting to know one another. Following that, we will plan on meeting every other Monday night from 6:30-8. Our theme verse for the year is 1 John 3:1 "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are." Our counselors for this year are Justine Stap, Jodi Anker, and Karla Buist. Eileen Timmermans will  be helping with crafts. The curriculum we chose for this year is called Loved. Our hope and prayer is that every girl that comes will know the truth of who she is according to God’s Word! That she is accepted, cherished, beautiful and so very LOVED! Gems will be holding a Spud Feed with the Cadets on October 9. We will be raising money for our Gems and Cadets group. We look forward to a fun year!

CADETS: The goal of Cadets is helping boys grow more Christlike in all areas of life. Our young men meet every other Monday night with  Godly older mentors. They will have a great experience doing bible studies,  earning badges by learning new skills, and enjoying some awesome outdoor activities. Our kick-off night is scheduled for Mon., September 11 at the city park at 6:30 pm. We will be combining with the GEMS group for a fun night of pizza, games and getting to know one another. Following that, we will plan on meeting every other Monday night from 6:30-8. Our theme and verse this year is Rooted and Grounded- “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, … to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:17-18 (NIV) For more information go to calvinistcadets.org or call Case Anker 360-318-5402.

LADIES MINISTRIES

SISTERS IN THE LORD: Welcome to all the ladies of our Second Family. I hope you all had an enjoyable summer. I’m sure you’re as excited as I am to reconnect with friends and acquaintances after the long break and what better place to do that than with Sisters in the Lord. This year we will be studying the Book of Esther replete with themes that are so applicable to life today. Like our previous study on Strength, Esther shows how God helps us through times of trial, manipulation, and cultural pressures. Esther showed how fasting (and praying) helped her to draw strength from God and to foil the evil plans of Haman, one of the Persian king’s advisors, and how this one orphaned girl was able to save the Jews from extermination. Come and join us so together we can discover how each of us can best serve the Lord.

This year, Sisters in the Lord will meet  every other Thursday at 1:30 in the Education Building starting on Sept. 21. Unfortunately, childcare will no longer be available. Please plan to stay for a social time with refreshments following the study period. All ladies are welcome whether or not you have joined us before.

Mission Workday: We are planning to start our Mission Day Quilting Sept. 12 in the Education Building from 1 pm to 3 pm, when we will stop to have coffee and goodies. We are always looking for people to come & join us. If you like to tie knots, cut fabric, sew, or put tops together and visit while doing all of the above, we would love to have you join us. We meet every other Tuesday afternoon. This past year we gave away 41 quilts of various sizes. From twin, double, lap, crib, to doll size. We also collect fabric that is in condition for quilting if anyone has some to donate. We are very grateful for the donations that have  been made. This helps us to keep this ministry alive.  Any questions, contact Mary Ann Gross  360-354-2387.

Friendship Circle: Women of all ages are welcomed to join Friendship Circle, an evening Bible Study  at Jan Ruiter’s home. They meet every   other Wednesday night at 7 pm and will  be starting up in late September.  If you are interested in it, please contact Jan Ruiter, 360-319-1575.

Ladies Night: We feel that connecting with women, both in small and large groups, offers a wonderful opportunity to learn more about each other and to enjoy a fun and entertaining night. We have these events every few months and they are always a good time filled with lots of laughter,  great conversations, and a huge amount  of delicious food. Be sure to look for the next event in the bulletin and sign–up!

MEN'S MINISTRIES

“ALL THINGS FOR GOOD” The title of this book written over 400 years ago by the Puritan, Thomas Watson, is drawn from Romans 8:28 – “All things work together for good.” “All Things”...do you truly believe this?  Watson dives deep into Romans 8:28 in a study that is guaranteed to equip, strengthen and encourage you in the challenges you face as you strive to be a man of God. The truths discovered in this study are as relevant today as they were centuries ago.  Call or TEXT Randy Winter at 360-389-8760 and let him know you are in!

MEN'S BREAKFST: Are you a guy? Do you like to eat? Then this breakfast is a PERFECT opportunity for you to get to know other men of all ages from your church family and enjoy some awesome fellowship & good food. Be sure to watch the bulletin for the next men's breakfast. You won’t want to miss it!

PRAYER MINISTRIES

Join us from 7-8 pm on the 22nd day of every month or the 2nd Wednesday of every month in the Office Building as we pray for our church, community, county and country. Even if you are not confident to pray aloud, your silent prayerful presence is a powerful blessing. It truly is a “sweet hour of prayer.” For more info, contact Bev Sterk at 360-354-8635.
